In-context usage & qualitative research · PUBLIC RESEARCH BRIEF

QualSightsWhen does observed product usage explain what consumers say?

QualSights describes a consumer-insights suite combining a participant app for video, photos and surveys, AI-powered analysis and Smart Sensors for passive product-usage tracking. Its UseSights offering connects usage data with in-the-moment feedback. Behavioral capture can reduce recall dependence, but missing sensor events, household sharing and prompted reflection still affect interpretation.

CHANGE ONE THING. LEARN WHAT MATTERS.

Three questions for the GTM team.

01

For QualSights, what missing-data, shared-household and device-use checks are needed before a Smart Sensor event is interpreted as an individual consumer behavior?

02

When passive usage and an in-the-moment video or survey disagree, which explanation should the research team test before privileging observed behavior or stated motivation?

03

How should teams distinguish a prompt that captures context from one that changes the routine being measured, especially across repeated product-use moments?

PROPOSED AUDIENCE

Who should weigh in?

North American consumer-insights, product, category, innovation and shopper-research teams evaluating QualSights for packaged goods or physical products. Include qualitative researchers, usage-data analysts, product teams and privacy or operations reviewers. Proposed audience only; no QualSights project, sensor event, participant media, household record or private brand data is included.

TWO TIME HORIZONS

Trial today. A habit tomorrow?

Near term · 0–90 days

Over 0–90 days, create synthetic household usage streams with known users, shared products, missed events, sensor errors and prompted video or survey responses. Compare attribution rules, follow-up timing and mixed behavioral-qualitative interpretations.

Longer term · 3–12 months

Over 3–12 months, vary household composition, product formats, device adherence and prompting frequency. Study measurement reactivity, attrition, seasonal routines and whether usage patterns replicate across fresh households and categories.

What would make the result actionable?

Use a labeled calibration period, reconcile sensor events with diaries or direct checks on a consented sample, and report missingness and household attribution explicitly. Validate any claim about satisfaction, repurchase or growth with independent outcomes rather than usage frequency alone.

A Gather simulation returns hypothetical customer reactions. Quantifying revenue, traffic or retention needs actual business inputs and validation against observed behavior.
