Visual discovery advertising · PUBLIC RESEARCH BRIEF
Pinterest BusinessWhich discovery cue helps a shopper move from saving an idea to choosing a product?
Pinterest says people browse, search and act across a consumer journey, and offers formats such as carousel, collections, image, video and interactive units with targeting and measurement tools. Pinterest Performance+ adds automation, audience controls and creative optimization. These features do not prove which discovery signal causes a purchase.

Three questions for the GTM team.
Would explicit interest or keyword guidance give a marketer enough control to trust a Performance+ test, or would a narrower manual setup be easier to approve?
Set up this study →Which evidence distinguishes useful discovery from low-intent activity: saves, outbound visits, validated product views, new-customer conversions or a controlled incremental test?

Who should weigh in?
US retail, home, beauty, food and lifestyle marketers, ecommerce operators, creative teams and measurement leads evaluating Pinterest Ads, plus adult planners and shoppers in relevant categories. Include new and returning buyers and separate browsing occasions from active purchase decisions. Proposed audience only; no Pinterest account, board or private campaign data is included.
TWO TIME HORIZONS
Trial today. A habit tomorrow?
Near term · 0–90 days
Over 0–90 days, test matched fictional Pins and landing experiences across browsing and active-planning tasks. Measure comprehension, save intent, product-evaluation behavior and trust in automated versus manual setup; do not treat a save or click as a sale.
Longer term · 3–12 months
Over 3–12 months, follow approved campaigns through seasonal planning cycles and creative refreshes to compare repeat discovery, validated new-customer actions and automation oversight. Keep attributed conversions separate from causal incrementality.
What would make the result actionable?
Use versioned Pins, identical products and prices, explicit keyword or interest hypotheses, catalog diagnostics, consented test events, new-versus-existing customer rules and controlled comparisons where feasible. Include media, creative and merchandising costs before modeling impact.
A Gather simulation returns hypothetical customer reactions. Quantifying revenue, traffic or retention needs actual business inputs and validation against observed behavior.
