Retail loyalty & same-day membership · PUBLIC RESEARCH BRIEF

TargetWhich Target Circle benefit should appear at the decision moment?

Target's current help page describes Target Circle as a program with free deals and bonuses, a payment option and a paid Target Circle 360 membership with same-day delivery benefits. It also describes automatically applied and personalized deals, rewards, linked-program benefits and community-giving votes. This brief tests explanation and placement, not sales impact.

CHANGE ONE THING. LEARN WHAT MATTERS.

Three questions for the GTM team.

01

At Target checkout, would an auto-applied savings summary or the next eligible personalized deal better explain Target Circle's value without interrupting the purchase task? Hold basket and available deals constant.

02

When introducing Target Circle 360, would same-day convenience first or a side-by-side benefit comparison better prevent confusion with the free program? Display the same verified delivery eligibility in both concepts.

03

For Target Circle community giving, would a voting prompt at checkout or after the purchase in the app feel more relevant and less disruptive? Use a fictional vote and do not submit a real selection.

PROPOSED AUDIENCE

Who should weigh in?

North American adult Target shoppers across stores, app and web who are free Target Circle members, paid Target Circle 360 members or nonmembers. Include a range of shopping frequency, digital familiarity and delivery eligibility. Proposed audience; no enrollment, purchase, savings or revenue outcome is implied.

TWO TIME HORIZONS

Trial today. A habit tomorrow?

Near term · 0–90 days

Over 0–90 days, run controlled checkout, membership and voting prototypes using synthetic accounts, baskets and delivery eligibility. Measure benefit comprehension, mistaken eligibility, task interruption and privacy comfort. Do not purchase, enroll, charge a payment method or cast a vote.

Longer term · 3–12 months

Over 3–12 months, follow approved cohorts across store, app and web journeys. Examine benefit discovery, expired rewards, deal trust, paid-versus-free confusion, delivery expectations, notification fatigue and cross-channel consistency. Savings, purchase or retention claims require observed records and controls.

What would make the result actionable?

Use versioned offer and eligibility rules, synthetic accounts and known-correct outcomes. Hold basket, deal value and delivery conditions constant; include expired, unavailable and no-benefit cases; separate comprehension from stated intent and require human review before any live change.

A Gather simulation returns hypothetical customer reactions. Quantifying revenue, traffic or retention needs actual business inputs and validation against observed behavior.
