Sportswear membership & digital experience · PUBLIC RESEARCH BRIEF

NikeWhich member benefit helps Nike earn the next interaction?

Nike's current membership help page describes expert guidance, member experiences, special offers, information about new drops, eligible free shipping, receiptless returns and member events in the Nike App. This brief tests how those established benefits should be presented at specific member moments without claiming purchase, loyalty or revenue effects.

CHANGE ONE THING. LEARN WHAT MATTERS.

Three questions for the GTM team.

01

For a new Nike member, would leading with sport-specific guidance or an immediately available member benefit make the home experience easier to understand? Hold product inventory, offer value and account state constant.

02

When a new Nike product drops, would early-access framing or expert use-case guidance better help members decide whether the item is relevant? Measure comprehension and relevance, not purchase behavior.

03

After a Nike purchase, would a receiptless-return path or fit and exchange guidance better resolve the member's next question? Use a synthetic order and do not initiate a return.

PROPOSED AUDIENCE

Who should weigh in?

North American adult athletic and lifestyle consumers considering, actively using or returning to Nike membership. Include a mix of sports, shopping frequency, Nike App familiarity and current, prospective or lapsed membership. Proposed audience; no loyalty, purchase or revenue outcome is implied.

TWO TIME HORIZONS

Trial today. A habit tomorrow?

Near term · 0–90 days

Over 0–90 days, run controlled prototype tasks with synthetic member accounts, fixed product inventory and identical offer terms. Measure benefit comprehension, task completion, mistaken eligibility and notification preference. Do not place orders, change accounts or contact participants outside the study.

Longer term · 3–12 months

Over 3–12 months, follow approved cohorts across sports, seasons and Nike App usage. Examine benefit discovery, notification fatigue, offer dependency, return friction and cross-channel consistency. Loyalty, purchase or revenue claims require observed behavior and appropriate controls.

What would make the result actionable?

Randomize versioned concepts while holding inventory, price, offer value and account state constant. Include ineligible, unavailable and no-action cases; record comprehension separately from stated intent; require consent and human review before any live member communication.

A Gather simulation returns hypothetical customer reactions. Quantifying revenue, traffic or retention needs actual business inputs and validation against observed behavior.
