Mixed-method research operations · PUBLIC RESEARCH BRIEF
SagoWhen should one research method hand the question to another?
Sago describes qualitative, quantitative, hybrid and in-person research services alongside platforms for automated quantitative studies, digital discussions and webcam interviews. A broad method portfolio can support continuity, but evidence collected through different modes is not automatically comparable or equally suited to every decision.

Three questions for the GTM team.
When an in-person or digital qualitative theme conflicts with a larger survey result, how should the team distinguish a subgroup explanation from a broad market conclusion?
Set up this study →What participant, stimulus and moderator differences must be documented before teams connect evidence from facility, online qualitative and automated quantitative studies?
Set up this study →PROPOSED AUDIENCE
Who should weigh in?
North American consumer-insights, market-research, brand, innovation and research-operations teams evaluating Sago. Include quantitative researchers, qualitative moderators, participant-recruitment owners, analysts and stakeholders who act on mixed-method findings. Proposed audience only; no Sago project, panelist, transcript, survey response or private client data is included.
TWO TIME HORIZONS
Trial today. A habit tomorrow?
Near term · 0–90 days
Over 0–90 days, create paired synthetic survey and interview datasets with known subgroup effects, mode effects and contradictory evidence. Compare method-selection rules, follow-up questions and the decisions reached when teams review methods separately versus as a connected sequence.
Longer term · 3–12 months
Over 3–12 months, vary recruitment sources, moderators, markets, devices and research objectives. Study whether handoff rules remain useful, whether mode differences accumulate and when a fresh independent study should replace another extension of the original project.
What would make the result actionable?
Pre-register the decision and handoff criteria, preserve sample and recruitment metadata, and audit every synthesis claim to its source record. Replicate consequential conclusions with an independent sample or behavioral evidence before treating mixed-method agreement as market truth.
A Gather simulation returns hypothetical customer reactions. Quantifying revenue, traffic or retention needs actual business inputs and validation against observed behavior.
